What to Pitch in June: PR Pitches for Media Coverage (2024)

What to Pitch in June: PR Pitches for Media Coverage (2024)

June is heating up and the second half of 2024 is rapidly approaching.

You know what that means...it's time to get your media outreach strategy locked in for maximum media coverage over the next few months.

To give you a head start, we've mapped out a few media opportunities and their prime pitch windows.

Pitch This: 6 Weeks Out (Late June—Early August)

Prime Day Deals & Product Picks (date TBD)

No, the official date for Prime Day has not been announced, but we can expect it to arrive in mid-July sometime. That gives us just a few weeks to get in front of editors, and the late announcement on the date might thin out the competition for you.

If you sell a product on Amazon, pitch your Prime Day deals to outlets now for some last-minute coverage.

Prep Your Holiday Gift Guide Outreach

For most online publications and magazines, holiday gift guide season starts just after Prime Day ends.

It's time to queue up your holiday offers and holiday press kits so you're ready to start pitching in mid-July.

If you're looking to kickstart your outreach, skip the media research this year and purchase one of our Holiday Gift Guide Media Lists to get immediate access to curated and verified media contacts.

And if you're not sure where to start in your preparations, check out our FREE Holiday PR Toolkit with a holiday outreach checklist, free media list template, and 20 free media contacts.

Pitch This: 3 Months Out (September)

Back-to-School & Dorm Living

Mid-summer is also prime time for back-to-school coverage across all types of media, especially for products like:

  • Dorm room essentials and organizers
  • College-focused tech, apparel, supplies
  • K-12 school supplies
  • Meal delivery and snack subscription services

Traveling & Outdoor Adventures

June-August are the big months for warm weather travel, but September's 3-day weekend holiday is one to notice, too.

For the next few months, various media will be looking for pitches around:

  • Travel gear, accessories, apparel
  • Fun family outdoor activities & toys
  • End-of-summer trip deals and packages
  • Best outdoor living items (grills, fire pits, patio furniture)

Pitch This: 6 Months Out (Holiday Season)

Of course, ALL holiday shopping coverage for Black Friday through Christmas and New Years is a constant need. Get your pitches ready across all the major gifting categories:

  • Tech & Electronics
  • Subscription Services
  • Games, Toys & Kids
  • Apparel & Accessories
  • Home Goods & Appliances
  • Hobbies, Sports, Outdoor
  • Beauty & Self-Care
  • Pets, Novelties, Things we Can't Organize

PR Tip of the Month: Don't forget your existing contacts!

In PR, it feels like we're constantly trying to find new media contacts for media coverage, but don't forget about the journalists and editors you've already collaborated with!

Media folks are always looking for stories that capitalize on anniversay-based trends of cover annual event/sholidays. If you can, remind them of the great collab you had the previous year, and you'll have a much better chance of scoring a returning spot with them.

It's a really simple, but powerful tactic for building long-term relationships with your top media targets.

Just don't want until the last minute, get that anniversary pitch in a good 2-3 months beforehand to increase your strike rate.

There's your exclusive tip for June! Go use it to maximize your PR hustle this summer and beyond.
